Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
